Nancy Cox, Black Earth, WI. I am fortunate to live and work among the natural beauty of Vermont Township, Wisconsin. Throughout the year I draw my inspiration from the design of interrelated shapes in nature created by the light quality of the season. Painting on location surrounded by nature, observing and responding to the elements, I strive to capture a fleeting moment in watercolor. I see in terms of composition and aim for an honest interpretation. I believe that observation is crucial, my floral and still life work is done directly from an assembly of objects in my studio. Attending the American Academy of Art in Chicago, I studied watercolor painting under the direction of Irving Shapiro. In over 20 years of painting, I have participated in numerous juried art shows including Madison’s “Art Fair on the Square” and in special exhibits such as The Madison Art Center’s “Art in Bloom”, at Botham Vineyards Winery and in the “Artful Women” exhibits. Numerous galleries in Illinois and Wisconsin have represented my paintings, which hang in private collections across the United States. I also have three one person shows to my credit. My watercolors have been published in a book of poetry; The Colors of Haiku which can be seen at www.colorsofverse.com. My work is represented by Jura Silverman at the Wisconsin Artists Showcase Gallery in Spring Green, Milward Farrell Fine Art in Madison and Gallery 440 in Savannah, Georgia. My work can also be seen at the Crossroads Coffeehouse in Cross Plains. One of my summer's highlights was the opportunity to paint at Pat Dillon's family's cottages on Spring Lake in Wisconsin. A number of us artists spent the weekend together painting. The weather was absolutely perfect and the setting was so beautiful. I think that all that inspiration enabled me to accomplish three paintings - two of which will be on display at Bungalow 1227 on Gallery Night - October 3.
