Dillon
Michael Dillon, Milwaukee, WI. Here, in part, by virtue of the fact that I am the brother of gallery owner Pat Dillon, I am a graphic designer by trade. However, in my spare time I draw and paint. My first love is colored pencils and have used drawing as my creative outlet (outside of graphic design) for many years. My drawing style is layer on layer, color over color which creates a thick, waxy, glossy surface. Although my subject matter includes still lifes and cityscapes, I have an interest in religious iconography and religious art in general. Visiting churches in Europe is one of my favorite pastimes while on vacation. The icon image is usually one of pain, suffering and old age. In the middle ages, these attributes, suffering, sadness and age, were considered signs of holiness and a clear indication of one's proximity to God. Recently I have taken up painting with acrylic on paper. The work here was done on paper (and in one instance on corrugated cardboard found on the same street as the subject of the paint¬ing) while on vacation in the south of France where I like to spend time when I can.
